Warhammer 40,000 Golden Demon

Sunday of the Warhammer 40,000 Open Days will see the Warhammer 40,000 Golden Demon painting competition taking place, a fantastic display of painting talent, all hoping to achieve a Golden Demon trophy, or even the Slayer Sword!

It’s a great opportunity to share your own skills, or to just admire the miniatures and salute the personal goals being achieved.

What are the Warhammer 40,000 Open Days? Fans of Warhammer 40,000 won’t want to miss this chance to delve into all they love about the world and it’s miniatures!

If you want to enter, you still have some time to dust off a gem already sitting in your collection, or add some next level touches to a work in progress miniature. You need to have your miniature in and registered by 12.00pm, judging will have finished for miniatures to be collected at 3.00pm, and the awards will be announced at 2.30pm.

See lots of great Golden Demon winning miniatures on the Golden Demon website for inspiration, and the categories you can enter for this event are below.

Warhammer 40,000 Single Miniature

Any single, human-sized Warhammer 40,000 miniature mounted on an appropriately sized base. This category includes model like Terminators, the Ork Warboss, Tech-Priest Dominus and Roboute Guilliman etc. Characters mounted on bikes, jetbikes etc will also be accepted in this category.

Warhammer 40,000 Squad

This category is for Warhammer 40,000 squads or squadrons of three or more models. Judges will be looking for units that best exemplify the qualities and character of the army they represent. This category DOES include squadrons of bike-mounted models provided they are organised into a unit of three or more models. Larger vehicle models should be entered into the Vehicles category. All models should be mounted on an appropriately sized base.

Warhammer 40,000 Vehicle

This category is open to single Warhammer 40,000 Vehicles, Crisis Battlesuit Commanders, Dreadnoughts and walker models. Although most of these models tend not to be supplied with a base, it is quite acceptable for you to mount the vehicle on an appropriately sized base.

Warhammer 40,000 Large Model

This category is for any single large Warhammer 40,000 model mounted on an appropriately sized base. This covers models like the Avatar, Daemon Princes, large Tyranids, Greater Daemons, etc.

Duel

This category comprises two models interacting with each other. The judges will be looking for a dynamic pairing of two well-matched opponents in some kind of combat or other dramatic situation. The duel must be on an appropriately sized base.

Unbound

This category is for dioramas, battle scenes, larger scale miniatures and all other models not covered by the categories above. This is also great for participants who wish to enter a second model that would otherwise be covered by a category they have already entered.

Youngblood

The Youngbloods painting competition is open to any competitors aged 15 years or under. Entries may consist of any model from the Warhammer 40,000 range.

Finally, if you work for Games Workshop and want to enter, there’s a category in this year’s competition just for you. For the Warhammer 40,000 Open Day, the rules for the Staff competition are as follows:

Staff Only (Single Model)

Any single human-sized Warhammer 40,000 miniature mounted on an appropriately sized base. This category includes Terminators, Ork Warbosses, Tech-Priest Dominus etc. Characters mounted on bikes, jetbikes etc will also be accepted in this category. This is the only category Games Workshop staff may enter.

As well as giving staff a chance to prove their skills, this final category is a great opportunity for Open Day visitors to see some fantastic models, including work from our Studio painters and sculptors.
